1. What is VISUMIDRIATIC FENILEFRINA and what it is used for
VISUMIDRIATIC FENILEFRINA is a medicine for ophthalmic (eye) use that causes
pupil dilation. It contains two active ingredients: tropicamide and phenylephrine hydrochloride.
What it is used for:
VISUMIDRIATIC FENILEFRINA is used when it is necessary to dilate the pupil:
- for examination of the inside of the eye (fundus)
- to diagnose vision impairments
- in inflammation of the iris, the colored part around the pupil (iritis, iridocyclitis)
- in inflammation involving both the iris and the choroid, a thin inner film with a high distribution of blood (uveitis). Consult your doctor if you do not notice improvements or if your symptoms worsen after the prescribed days of therapy.

Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor before using VISUMIDRIATIC FENILEFRINA and use it under medical
supervision.
The use, especially if prolonged, of VISUMIDRIATIC FENILEFRINA, may give rise to
sensitization phenomena (hypersensitivity).
If this occurs, you should stop treatment and institute appropriate therapy.
We recommend, after instillation, to apply pressure with your fingers for about one minute on the
lacrimal sac to avoid excessive absorption of the medicine also in other areas
of the body. During this period it will be appropriate for you to protect your eyes from too
intense light.
In order to avoid an attack of glaucoma, you must undergo a thorough examination before the start of treatment to assess the width of the space between the iris and the cornea (iridocorneal
angle).
This medicine can be used in patients with open-angle glaucoma because the brief
pupil dilation (mydriasis) can reduce adhesions and therefore the pressure inside
the eye.
Use the medicine with great caution if you have:
- heart disorders
- high blood pressure (hypertension)
- alteration of blood sugar concentration (diabetes)
- excessive thyroid activity (hyperthyroidism) Even if your blood pressure is normal or if your blood pressure is high but controlled with appropriate medical therapy, this medicine in rare cases can cause a sudden increase in blood pressure. Particular caution should also be adopted if you are:
- elderly patient for whom an increase in intraocular pressure (glaucoma attack) could occur more easily
VISUMIDRIATIC FENILEFRINA should not be used in children under 12
