1. What is BETAISTINA DOC and what is it used for
BETAISTINA DOCcontains betaistine. This medicine is called a histamine analogue.
It is used to treat:
- dizziness (vertigo)
- ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- hearing loss affecting people with Ménière's syndrome.
The medicine works by improving blood flow to the inner ear. This reduces
increased pressure.
2. What you need to know before you take BETAISTINA DOC
Do not take BETAISTINA DOC
- If you are allergic to betaistine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- If you have high blood pressure due to a tumor of the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma)
If any of these apply to you, do not take this medicine and see your doctor.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking BETAISTINA DOC
- If you have a stomach ulcer 1/5
- If you have asthma
- If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy
- If you are breastfeeding
If any of these apply to you, talk to your doctor before taking this
medicine.
The doctor will tell you if it is safe for you to start taking this medicine.
The doctor may also want to monitor your asthma while you take BETAISTINA DOC.
Children and adolescents
The use of BETAISTINA DOC in children and adolescents under 18 years of age is not recommended.
Other medicines and BETAISTINA DOC
No interactions between BETAISTINA DOC and other medicines are known. If you experience any undesirable effects, inform your doctor or pharmacist.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take
any other medicines, including those available without a prescription.
BETAISTINA DOC with food, drinks and alcohol
You can drink alcohol while taking BETAISTINA DOC.
You can take BETAISTINA DOC with or without food.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not take BETAISTINA DOC if you are pregnant unless your doctor decides it is absolutely
necessary.
Ask your doctor for advice.
Do not breastfeed while using BETAISTINA DOC unless your doctor advises you to.
It is not known whether BETAISTINA DOC passes into breast milk.
Driving and operating machinery
You may drive vehicles and operate machinery during treatment, provided this
medicine does not cause you drowsiness.
Make sure you know how this medicine affects you before driving vehicles or operating
machinery.
BETAISTINA DOC contains lactose
If your doctor has told you that you have intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before
taking this medicine.
3. How to take BETAISTINA DOC
Take this medicine following exactly the instructions of your doctor. If you have doubts
consult your doctor or pharmacist.

- Swallow the tablet with a little water
- Take the tablet during or after meals
The recommended dose is from half to one tablet twice a day.
The tablet can be divided into equal parts.
Continue to take the tablets. It may take some time before the
tablets are effective.
Always follow your doctor’s instructions, as the doctor may adjust the dose.
Use in children
BETAISTINA DOC is not recommended in children.
If you take more BETAISTINA DOC than you should
If you or someone else takes too much BETAISTINA DOC (an overdose), contact a
doctor or go immediately to hospital. Bring the packaging of the medicine with you.
If you forget to take BETAISTINA DOC
If you forget to take a tablet, wait until the next dose. Do not try to compensate
for the missed dose.
If you stop taking BETAISTINA DOC
Continue to take the tablets until your doctor tells you to stop.
Even when you feel better, your doctor may decide to have you continue taking the
tablets for some time, to make sure that the medicine has worked
completely.
If you have any doubts about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following serious side effects may occur during treatment with
BETAISTINA DOC:
Allergic reactions such as:
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. This can cause difficulty in breathing.
- Skin redness, itchy skin inflammation.
If any of these side effects occur, stop treatment immediately and contact your doctor.
Common side effects(may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
Nausea, indigestion and headache.

Other side effects
Drowsiness, itching, hives, mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as vomiting, stomach pain and
swelling. Taking BETAISTINA DOC with food may help to reduce stomach problems.
If any side effect occurs, including those not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
5. How to store BETAISTINA DOC
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- This medicine should preferably be kept locked up in a cabinet or in the medicine cabinet.
- Do not use the tablets after the expiry date indicated on the box and blister. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
- Do not store at a temperature above 25°C.
- Store in a dry place in the original packaging.
Do not dispose of any medicine in the wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist
how to eliminate medicines that you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
What BETAISTINA DOC contains
The active ingredient is betahistine dihydrochloride.
One tablet contains 24 mg of betahistine dihydrochloride.
The other ingredients are povidone, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, colloidal silica
anhydrous, crospovidone and stearic acid.
Description of the appearance of BETAISTINA DOC and contents of the pack
Circular, biconvex tablet, from almost white to white in colour, with a fracture line on one
side. The tablet can be divided into two equal doses.
The tablets are available in cardboard boxes containing 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 or 100 tablets in
blisters.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
