1. What is AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M. and what is it used for?
AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M. contains a group of substances called amino acids, which are essential for the human body and used to nourish patients who cannot be fed orally (parenteral nutrition).
This medicine is indicated in the following cases:
- for the treatment of people in a coma due to a severe liver disease (hepatic coma of I and II degree);
- as a supplement of protein substances in people with debilitated liver problems (malnutrition);
- for the treatment before and after surgery in people with liver problems, and in the late post-operative period.
2. What you need to know before using AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M.
Do not use AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M.
- if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you have problems metabolizing amino acids;
- if you suffer from a severe kidney disease (renal insufficiency).
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M.
The solution (in bags and administration sets) must be protected from exposure to light
until the administration is completed. Exposure of AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M. to
ambient light, especially after the addition of trace elements and/or vitamins, generates peroxides and other products
of degradation that can be reduced by protection from light exposure.
This medicine will be administered to you with cautionif you suffer from diabetes, paying attention to
the simultaneous administration of sugars.
During treatment with AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M. it is necessary to monitor the levels of
mineral salts (electrolyte balance) and blood pH (acid-base balance) by means of specific
laboratory tests, and, if necessary, restore the balance by administering
corrective electrolytic solutions.
To avoid excessive increase in blood chlorine levels (hyperchloremia), it is advisable to administer
the daily requirement of sodium and potassium in the form of acetate salts.

medicines.
No interactions with other medicines are known. However, it is advisable not to mix with other medicines.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding
ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before this medicine is administered to you.
No data are available regarding the use of this medicine in pregnant women and during
breastfeeding. Your doctor will prescribe this medicine only if absolutely necessary.
Driving and operating machinery
No data are available regarding the effects of the medicine on the ability to drive vehicles or operate
machinery.
AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M. contains sodium metabisulfite and sodium
This medicine contains sodium metabisulfite which rarely can cause severe hypersensitivity reactions and
bronchospasm.
This medicine contains 99.82 mg of sodium (4.34 mmol) per 500 ml of solution. To be taken into
consideration in people with reduced kidney function or who are following a low-sodium diet.
3. How to use AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M.
This medicine will be administered to you by a doctor or other specialized personnel for slow intravenous
infusion (intravenous route). If you have any doubts, consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
The doctor will determine the dose based on your health conditions.
In general, solutions of selective L-amino acids are normally administered in an amount
corresponding to 0.5-1 g of amino acids per kg of body weight at a rate that ensures the delivery
of each infusion unit in 12-24 hours.
Preparation of the medicine: use immediately after opening the container. The solution must be
used only if perfectly clear and free of visible particles. It is intended for a single and continuous
administration; any remaining solution cannot be reused.
The solution (in bags and administration sets) must be protected from exposure to light
until the administration is completed (see paragraph 2).

This medicine will be administered by specialized personnel, so it is unlikely that you will be
administered an excessive dose.
However, if you think that you have been administered an excessive dose of AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M.,
inform your doctor or another healthcare professional immediately.
If you have any doubts about the use of this medicine, consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur:
- fever, chills, nausea and vomiting, especially if administered by rapid intravenous infusion (intravenous infusion);
- skin irritation (urticaria) or redness (vasodilation), abdominal pain. If you experience these symptoms, inform your doctor immediately who will have to stop the administration;
- inflammation of the veins at the injection site (phlebitis and thrombophlebitis).

5. How to store AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the packaging after “EXP.”.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Store the medicine protected from light.
The solution (in bags and administration sets) must be protected from exposure to light
until the administration is completed (see section 2).
Do not dispose of any medicine in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of
medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
What AMINOACIDI S Bioindustria L.I.M. contains
- The active substances are amino acids. 500 ml of solution contain 79.6 g of total amino acids corresponding to: 3.75 g of L-alanine (84.18 mmol/l), 3 g of L-arginine (34.44 mmol/l), 0.5 g of L-phenylalanine (6.05 mmol/l), 4.5 g of glycine (119.89 mmol/l), 4.5 g of L-isoleucine (68.61 mmol/l), 1.2 g of L-histidine (15.47 mmol/l), 5.5 g L-leucine (83.86 mmol/l), 3.8 g of L-lysine hydrochloride equivalent to 3.04 g of L-lysine (41.59 mmol/l), 0.5 g of L-methionine (6.7 mmol/l), 4 g of L-proline (69.49 mmol/l), 2.5 g of L-serine (47.58 mmol/l), 2.25 g of L-threonine (37.78 mmol/l), 0.38 g of L-tryptophan (3.72 mmol/l), 4.2 g of L-valine (71.7 mmol/l). Each litre of solution contains 8.68 mEq of sodium, 98.36 mEq of chloride and 12.26 g of total nitrogen.
- The other components are: sodium metabisulfite, sodium edetate, hydrochloric acid and water for injections.
