(serum osmolarity, electrolyte status and serum proteins), sugars (glycemia),
ammonia (ammonemia, especially in the presence of kidney disease) and certain gases
(blood gas analysis).
The infusion site must also be monitored to avoid inflammation of the veins
(phlebitis) or formation of blood clots (thrombosis). In this case, or if fever or

3. How to use AMINOACIDI A CATENA RAMIFICATA MONICO
This medicine will be administered to you by a doctor or other specialized personnel. If you have doubts
consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
This medicine will be administered directly into a vein (intravenous infusion) and
you will generally also be given an adequate amount of glucose
(to ensure a caloric intake of at least 20-25 Kcal per kilogram of body weight per
day).
The doctor will determine the dose based on your needs, therefore the dosages indicated should
be considered indicative.
For the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, generally the recommended doseis 1-2
vials of 500 ml (corresponding to 500-1000 ml of solution) per day, for direct injection
into a vein (intravenous infusion).
For other indications, the recommended dose is 1-3 vials of 250 ml (corresponding to 250-750 ml of
solution) per day, combined with other amino acid solutions.
The doctor will preferably administer the medicine into a central vein. However, peripheral administration is also possible. A single administration per day is advisable,
unless otherwise advised by a doctor; however, the most rational way to use the product is continuous
infusion over 24 hours. If used for intermittent administration, a single 500 ml vial
must be infused within a maximum time of 4 hours (infusion rate of 30
drops/minute).
Administration should be continued as long as there is a need for nutritional or metabolic support
of the patient.
Use immediately after opening the container. The solution must be used only if
perfectly clear and free of visible particles. Each vial is for a single and continuous
administration; any residue cannot be reused.
If you notice the presence of amino acid crystals on the neck of the vial, it is necessary to shake
the solution vigorously and possibly warm the vial in a water bath at 37°C until
complete dissolution of the crystals, before proceeding with the administration of the solution.
If you use more AMINOACIDI A CATENA RAMIFICATA MONICO than you should
Since this medicine will be administered by specialized personnel, it is unlikely that you
will be given an excessive dose. However, if you think you have been given an
excessive dose of AMINOACIDI A CATENA RAMIFICATA MONICO, inform your doctor or another healthcare professional immediately.
In case of too fast administration or an amount of amino acids greater than that of
glucose, an increase in the amount of ammonia in circulation (hyperammonemia) may occur.
If you have any doubts about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist or
nurse.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur:
- fever, chills, nausea and vomiting, especially if administered by rapid intravenous infusion (intravenous infusion);
- skin irritation (urticaria) or redness (vasodilation), abdominal pain, uncontrolled muscle movements (convulsions); if you experience these symptoms, inform your doctor immediately who will need to stop administration and take appropriate countermeasures;
- inflammation of the veins and risk of blood clot formation (phlebitis and thrombophlebitis) at the injection site; in this case, the doctor will change the injection site.
