SPECIAL WARNINGS
Patients with a personal history of anaphylactic shock or similar potentially life-threatening reactions to
the ingestion of foods should not rely on protection with Nalcrom.
The safety of use of Nalcrom for the treatment of children under two years of age has not been
established.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be reserved for cases of actual
need.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Driving and operating machinery
The use of Nalcrom does not impair the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.
Important information about some excipients of Nalcrom
The sachet formulation contains sucrose.This should be taken into account in diabetic patients and
in those following a low-calorie diet.
If your doctor has diagnosed you with an intolerance to certain sugars, contact him before taking
this medicine.
DOSAGE, ADMINISTRATION AND DURATION OF TREATMENT
Nalcrom should be used after appropriate investigations have been carried out to determine sensitivity to one or
more ingested allergens, together with a diet restricting the main causal allergens.
Initial dose:
children from 2 to 14 years: 100 mg 4 times a day before main meals
adults: 200-250 mg 4 times a day before main meals.
If satisfactory symptom control is not achieved within 2-3 weeks, the dose may be
doubled (200 mg 4 times a day in children up to 14 years and 500 mg 4 times a day in adults and
adolescents over 14 years) without, however, exceeding 40 mg/kg/day.
Maintenance dose:
Once a therapeutic response has been obtained, the dose may be reduced to the minimum necessary to
keep the patient free from symptoms.
Patients with food allergies who are unable to avoid allergenic foods in certain circumstances
(e.g. school meals, restaurants, etc.) can protect themselves against the effects of these foods
by taking a single dose of Nalcrom 15-30 minutes before the meal. The optimal dose should be
determined for each patient, starting with 200/250 mg in adults and 100 mg in children.
ADMINISTRATION
The capsulescan be swallowed whole, or the powder content can be dissolved in a
small amount of hot water which is then diluted with cold water before drinking. Administration
in the form of an aqueous solution appears to be the method of choice in food allergy.
The sachetsshould be opened and their contents dissolved in half a glass of cold water, stirring
lightly with a teaspoon.
It is advisable to shake the solution in the mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. This
operation helps to protect the oral mucosa sometimes involved in the absorption of food
allergens.
Diabetic patients and patients following a low-calorie diet should pay attention to
what is stated in the “Special warnings” section.
OVERDOSE
Nalcrom is absorbed only in small quantities. Furthermore, studies conducted in animals have shown
that sodium cromoglycate has low local or systemic toxicity; extensive studies in humans
have not revealed safety risks with the product. Therefore, it is unlikely that an overdose
will cause problems, but if suspected, treatment should be supportive and aimed at controlling
symptoms.
In case of accidental ingestion/intake of an excessive dose of Nalcrom, immediately inform your
doctor or go to the nearest hospital.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Nalcrom can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The most frequent side effects reported (≤ 1/100) usually involve the
gastrointestinal system such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, less common (≤ 1/1000) are those
reported to the skin system such as skin rashes or to the musculoskeletal system such as joint pain.
Even rarer (≤ 1/10,000) are hypersensitivity reactions.
