1. What FISIOTENS is and what it is used for
Fisiotens contains a drug called moxonidine. This drug belongs to a group of drugs called “antihypertensives”.
Fisiotens is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and works by
making blood vessels relaxed and dilated. This helps to lower blood
pressure.
2. What you need to know before you take FISIOTENS
Do not take Fisiotens if:
- you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active ingredient or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- you have a slow heartbeat due to a heart problem called “sick sinus syndrome” or “second or third degree atrioventricular block”;
- you have heart failure
- bradycardia (resting heart rate <50 beats/min)
Do not take Fisiotens if any of the above conditions apply to you. If you have
doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Fisiotens.
Take special care with Fisiotens
Before taking the medicine consult your doctor or pharmacist:
- if you have a heart problem called “first degree atrioventricular block”
- if you have a severe illness of the heart arteries or unstable chest pain (angina)
- if you have kidney problems. Your doctor may need to adjust your dosage
Before taking Fisiotens consult your doctor or pharmacist if any of the
conditions above apply to you (or if you are not sure).
Use with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or
may take any other medicines, including those without a prescription
and herbal medicines, as Fisiotens may have an effect on the
mechanism of action of other drugs and other drugs may affect the mechanism
of action of Fisiotens.
In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are already taking any of the
following medicines:
- other medicines to lower blood pressure. Fisiotens may increase the effect of these medicines
- antidepressant medicines (such as tricyclic antidepressants, e.g. imipramine or amitriptyline), co-administration should be avoided tranquilizers, sedatives or hypnotics, as monoxidina may increase their effect
- benzodiazepines
- beta-blockers (see “If you stop taking Fisiotens” in section 3)
- Fisiotens is eliminated through the kidneys through a mechanism called “tubular excretion”. Other drugs eliminated through the kidneys with the same mechanism may have an effect on the action of Fisiotens.
Before taking Fisiotens consult your doctor or pharmacist if any of the
conditions above apply to you (or if you are not sure).
Use with food and drink
- You can take the tablets during or away from meals.
- Do not drink alcohol while taking Fisiotens as the effects of alcohol may be increased by Fisiotens.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, suspect you may be pregnant or are planning a
pregnancy, or if you are breastfeeding with breast milk, ask your doctor or
pharmacist for advice before
taking this medicine
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be soon. The doctor will tell you to stop Fisiotens and take another medicine.
- Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or are about to start breastfeeding. Fisiotens is not indicated for breastfeeding women. The doctor will advise you to take another medicine if you want to breastfeed or ask you to stop breastfeeding.
