Инструкция по применению STIXENIL
BEFORE USE
READ CAREFULLY ALL THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE PACKAGE LEAFLET
This is a self-medication medicine that you can use to treat mild and transient disorders
easily recognizable and resolvable without resorting to the help of the doctor.
It can therefore be purchased without a prescription but must be used correctly to ensure its effectiveness and
reduce unwanted effects.
For more information and advice, contact your pharmacist.
Consult your doctor if the disorder does not resolve after a short period of treatment indicated.
Stixenil 5 mg coated tablets
Bisacodyl
WHAT IT IS
STIXENIL is a contact laxative
WHY IT IS USED
Short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of the excipients.
Laxatives are contraindicated in subjects with acute or of unknown origin abdominal pain, nausea or
vomiting, intestinal obstruction or stenosis, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, severe
dehydration. Generally contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding (see paragraph «What to do
during pregnancy and breastfeeding»).
Generally contraindicated in pediatric age (see paragraph «Important information»).
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
WHICH MEDICINES OR FOODS CAN MODIFY THE EFFECT OF THE MEDICINE
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have recently taken any other medicine, even those
without a prescription.
Laxatives can reduce the time of permanence in the intestine, and therefore the absorption, of other
drugs administered simultaneously orally. Therefore, avoid taking laxatives and other drugs
simultaneously: after taking a medicine, allow at least 2 hours before taking the laxative.
Concomitant use of diuretics or corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance if
bisacodyl is taken in excessive quantities.
Electrolyte imbalance can lead to increased sensitivity to cardiac glycosides.
Milk and antacids can modify the effect of the medicine; allow at least one hour before taking the
laxative.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The abuse of laxatives (frequent or prolonged use or with excessive doses) can cause persistent
diarrhea with consequent loss of water, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential
nutrients.
In the most severe cases, dehydration or hypokalemia (decrease in blood potassium) is possible, which
can determine cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunction, especially in case of concomitant treatment with
cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids.
The abuse of laxatives, especially stimulant laxatives (stimulant laxatives), can cause dependence (and,
therefore, possible need to progressively increase the dosage), chronic constipation and loss of
normal intestinal functions (intestinal atony).
Cases of dizziness or syncope during defecation have been reported with the use of bisacodyl, compatible
with defecation syncope (attributable to the effort of defecation itself) or with a vasovagal response to
abdominal pains that may be associated with constipation.
When it can be used only after consulting the doctor
The treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires the intervention of the doctor for the
diagnosis, the prescription of the drugs and the surveillance during the therapy.
In children under 12 years of age.
In the presence of abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, or inflammatory diseases of the intestine.
In case of sudden change of previous intestinal habits (frequency of evacuations) that lasts for more than
two weeks or when the use of the laxative fails to produce effects or when the patient is affected by
diabetes mellitus, hypertension or heart disease.
When the patient is affected by diabetes mellitus, hypertension or heart disease.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It is also advisable that elderly or in poor health subjects consult the doctor before using the medicine.
What to do during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding STIXENIL should be used only after consulting the doctor and
having evaluated with him the risk/benefit ratio in your case.
Consult your doctor if you suspect a state of pregnancy or wish to plan a pregnancy.
Important information on some excipients
This medicine contains lactose and sucrose therefore if the doctor has diagnosed you with an
intolerance to some sugars, contact him before taking this medicine.
Effects on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery
No effects on the ability to drive or operate machinery are known. However, those who perform an
activity requiring vigilance should use caution. Patients should be informed that due to the vasovagal
response (resulting, for example, from abdominal spasm), dizziness and/or syncope may occur. If
patients experience abdominal spasm, they should avoid potentially dangerous activities such as driving
or operating machinery.
Health education notes
First of all, it must be kept in mind that, in most cases, a balanced diet and rich in water and fiber
(bran, vegetables and fruit) can durably solve the problem of constipation. Many people think they suffer
from constipation if they cannot evacuate every day. This is a mistaken belief because this situation is
completely normal for a large number of individuals. Instead, consider that constipation occurs when
evacuations are reduced compared to one's personal habits and are associated with the emission of hard
feces. If episodes of constipation occur repeatedly, a doctor should be consulted.
How to use this medicine
Children aged 10 years or less with chronic constipation must be treated under strict medical supervision.
Bisacodyl should not be used in children under 2 years of age.
How much
Short-term treatment of constipation
Adults and children over 10 years of age:
1-2 coated tablets (5-10 mg) daily before bedtime
Children: from 2 to 10 years of age
1 coated tablet (5 mg) daily before bedtime
The correct dose is the minimum sufficient to produce an easy evacuation of soft stools. It is advisable to
initially use the minimum doses provided. When necessary, the dose can then be increased, but never
exceeding the maximum indicated.
Caution: do not exceed the indicated doses.
When and for how long
Preferably take in the evening.
Laxatives should be used as infrequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use for longer
periods requires a doctor's prescription after adequate assessment of the individual case.
How
Swallow together with an adequate amount of water (a large glass). A diet rich in fluids promotes the
effect of the medicine.
The coated tablets should be swallowed whole, if necessary with an adequate amount of liquid (not milk).
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE TAKEN TOO MUCH MEDICINE
Excessive doses can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea; the resulting loss of fluids and electrolytes must
be replaced. See also what is reported in the paragraph "Important information" regarding the abuse of
laxatives.
It is important to contact your doctor or pharmacist for appropriate clarification on the use of Stixenil.
In case of accidental ingestion/intake of an excessive dose of Stixenil, immediately notify the doctor or
go to the nearest hospital.
S’S,

The most commonly reported side effects during treatment with Stixenil are abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Immune system disorders: anaphylactic reactions, angioedema and other hypersensitivity reactions.
Nervous system disorders: dizziness, syncope (dizziness and syncope phenomena that occur after
taking bisacodyl appear to be attributable to a vasovagal response resulting, for example, from abdominal
pain, or to the evacuation of feces).

Gastrointestinal disorders: colitis, abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea,
hematochezia (blood in the stool), abdominal discomfort, anorectal discomfort
