1. What is Recofluid and what is it used for
Recofluid is a syrup that contains the active ingredient carbocisteine belonging to the group of
mucolytic medicines that work by fluidizing mucus in the respiratory tract and facilitating
its elimination.
Recofluid is used to treat acute respiratory diseases characterized by the presence of dense
and viscous mucus.
Consult your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a maximum treatment
period of 14 days.
2. What you need to know before taking Recofluid
Do not take Recofluid
- if you are allergic to the active ingredient or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you have a lesion in the inner wall of the stomach and intestines (gastroduodenal ulcer);
- if you are pregnant and breastfeeding (see “Pregnancy and breastfeeding”).
It is advisable to consult your doctor even in cases where these disorders have occurred in the past.
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Recofluid.
The increase in mucus that you may observe from the first few days, quickly subsides.
If you experience signs of hypersensitivity, discontinue treatment.
Caution is recommended in elderly patients, asthmatic patients with a history of severe respiratory problems,
debilitated patients, those with a history of gastroduodenal ulcers, or those who are
taking drugs known to cause gastrointestinal bleeding. You must stop the
treatment with carbocisteine in case of gastrointestinal bleeding.
This medicine should not be used in association with cough suppressants and/or medicines that
inhibit bronchial secretion.
Children and adolescents
Recofluid is only indicated for adults.
Other medicines and Recofluid
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take
any other medicines.
No interaction studies have been conducted.
Fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, or if you are breastfeeding,
ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Recofluid should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Use should also be avoided if you suspect you are pregnant or wish to plan a pregnancy.
Driving and operating machinery
Recofluid does not or negligibly alters the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery.
Recofluid contains sorbitol
This medicine contains 3 g of sorbitol per 15 ml of syrup (1 tablespoon).
Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you that you are intolerant to certain sugars, or if
you have a diagnosis of hereditary fructose intolerance, a rare genetic disease in which patients cannot
metabolize fructose, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
It may cause gastrointestinal problems and have a mild laxative effect.
Recofluid contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate
Methyl parahydroxybenzoate contained in Recofluid may cause allergic reactions (including delayed reactions).
3. How to take Recofluid
Take this medicine following exactly the instructions in this leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medicine for short periods of time; if after 14 days of treatment the symptoms do not resolve, it is recommended to consult a doctor.
The use of Recofluid is reserved for adults.
The recommended dose is 2-3 tablespoons a day with an interval of 8 hours between each intake (1 tablespoon corresponds to 15 ml = 750 mg).
Caution: do not exceed the indicated dose without the advice of your doctor.
You can take Recofluid independently of meals.
Consult your doctor if the disorder occurs repeatedly or if you have noticed any recent change in its characteristics.
Caution: use Recofluid only for short periods of treatment.
Take orally.
Instructions for opening the bottle:

Use in children and adolescents
Recofluid is not indicated in children and adolescents.
If you take more Recofluid than you should
Symptoms due to overdose include: headache, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain.
In case of accidental ingestion/intake of an excessive dose of Recofluid, immediately inform your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.
If you forget to take Recofluid
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking Recofluid
If you have any doubts about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
Frequency not known (the frequency of which cannot be estimated from available data):
- dizziness
- digestive disorders (stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, gastrointestinal bleeding).
- allergic skin rashes
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- bullous dermatitis
- severe, sudden allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions)
- skin irritation with redness of the skin (fixed erythema)
- erythema multiforme
- toxic skin rash
- reduction, generally reversible, in the number of some blood cells (leukopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, anaemia) may occur exceptionally in sensitive individuals and when treated with certain medicines for diabetes (sulphonylureas).

doctor or pharmacist. You can also report side effects directly through the national reporting system at

By reporting side effects you can help to provide more information on the safety of
this medicine.
5. How to store Recofluid
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at a temperature below 25°C.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack after the words
“Expiry”.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
The shelf life after first opening the bottle is 10 days; any remaining quantity must be
discarded.
Do not dispose of any medicine in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to
dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
What Recofluid contains
- The active ingredient is carbocisteine. 100 ml of syrup contains 5 g of carbocisteine
- The other ingredients are raspberry aroma, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, sorbitol 70%, purified water.
Description of the appearance of Recofluid and contents of the pack
Recofluid is presented in the form of raspberry-flavored oral syrup. The contents of the
pack are a 150 ml bottle.
