information for you.

- This medicine has been prescribed for you only. Do not pass it on to others, even if they have the same symptoms as you, as it may be harmful.

1. What is Agivert and what is it used for
Agivert contains two active ingredients, cinnarizine and dimenidrinate. The two substances belong to different groups
of medicines. Cinnarizine is part of the group of calcium antagonists, dimenidrinate belongs to
a group of medicines called antihistamines.
Both substances work by reducing the symptoms of vertigo (a sensation of dizziness or spinning) and nausea (feeling unwell). When these two substances are used in combination,
they are more effective than using each of them individually.
Agivert is used for the treatment of various types of vertigo in adults. Vertigo can have different causes.
Taking Agivert can help you to carry out normal daily activities that are made difficult by
the presence of vertigo.
2. What you need to know before taking Agivert
Do not take Agivert
If you are under 18 years of age.
If you are allergic to cinnarizine, dimenhydrinate, diphenhydramine or any of the other components
of this medicine (listed in section 6).
If you are allergic to any other antihistamine (such as astemizole, chlorpheniramine and terfenadine,
used as anti-allergic medicines). You should not take this medicine unless it has been
prescribed by your doctor.
If you suffer from closed-angle glaucoma (a particular type of eye disease).
If you suffer from epilepsy.
If you have increased pressure inside the brain (e.g. due to a tumor).
If you have problems with alcohol abuse.
If you have prostate problems that cause difficulty urinating.
If you suffer from liver and kidney failure.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Agivert if you suffer from:
- Low or high blood pressure,
- High eye pressure,
- Bowel obstruction,
- Enlarged prostate,
- Hyperthyroidism,
- severe heart problems
- ,
- Parkinson's disease.
The use of Agivert may worsen these conditions. Agivert may still be indicated for you but the doctor
must be aware of these factors.
Other medicines and Agivert
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any
other medicine.
Agivert can interact with other medicines you are taking.
Taking Agivert with the medicines listed below may make you tired or sleepy:
- barbiturates (medicines often taken to induce a state of calm)
- narcotic analgesics such as morphine (strong painkillers such as morphine)
- tranquilizers (a type of medicine used to treat depression and anxiety)
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors (used to treat depression and anxiety)
Agivert may enhance the effects of the following medicines:
- tricyclic antidepressants (used to treat depression and anxiety)
- atropine (a medicine that relaxes muscles and is often used in eye examinations)
- ephedrine (may be used to treat coughs or nasal congestion)
- procarbazine (a medicine used to treat some types of cancer)
- medicines used to lower blood pressure
Aminoglycosides (a type of antibiotic) can damage the inner ear. If you take AGIVERT, it is
possible that you will not notice this damage.
You should not take Agivert with medicines that are used to correct heart rhythm problems
(antiarrhythmics). Agivert can also alter the skin's response to allergy tests.
Agivert with food, beverages and alcohol
Agivert can cause indigestion, which can be reduced by taking the tablets after meals. Do not drink
alcohol during treatment with Agivert as it may cause tiredness or drowsiness.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
Do not take Agivert if you are pregnant, suspect you may be pregnant or are planning a pregnancy, or if you
are breastfeeding.
Driving and operating machinery
Agivert can cause drowsiness. If this happens, do not drive or operate machinery
3. HOW TO TAKE AGIVERT
Take this medicine following exactly the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts
consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is one tablet three times a day, to be taken after meals with some liquid.
Swallow the tablet whole without chewing. Generally you will take Agivert for a maximum of 4 weeks. Your
doctor will tell you if you need to take Agivert for longer.
If you take more Agivert than you should
If you accidentally take too many tablets or if a child has swallowed any, consult a doctor urgently.
Taking an excessive amount of Agivert may make you feel very tired, sleepy and unstable.
Your pupils may dilate and you may not be able to urinate. You may experience dry mouth, flushing of the
face, increased heart rate, fever, sweating and headache.
If you take a massive dose of Agivert you may experience convulsions, hallucinations, high blood pressure, you may feel
shaken, excited and have difficulty breathing. You may go into a coma.
If you forget to take Agivert
If you forget to take an Agivert tablet, you should skip that dose. Take the next Agivert tablet at the
usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed tablet.
If you stop taking Agivert
Do not stop treatment with Agivert before your doctor tells you to. If you stop the
treatment too early, it is likely that the symptoms of dizziness (feeling dizzy and lightheaded)
will return.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

- drowsiness
- dry mouth
- headache
- stomach ache These effects are generally mild and disappear within a few days while continuing treatment with Agivert.
Uncommon side effects(may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
- sweating
- redness of the skin
- indigestion
- nausea (feeling unwell)
- diarrhea
- nervousness
- cramps
- forgetfulness
- tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- paresthesia (tingling of hands or feet)
- tremor
Rare side effects(may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)
- impaired vision
- allergic reactions (e.g. skin reactions)
- sensitivity to light
- difficulty in urination
Very rare side effects(may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
- reduction in the number of white blood cells and platelets
- significant reduction in the number of red blood cells which can cause weakness, bruising or increased risk of developing infections.
If you develop infections with fever and a severe worsening of your general condition, consult your doctor
and inform him/her about the medicine you are taking.
Other possible reactions (frequency cannot be estimated on the basis of available data) that may
occur with the use of this medicine include:
- weight gain
- constipation
- feeling of chest tightness
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes caused by blood or liver problems)
- worsening of closed-angle glaucoma (an eye disease characterized by increased pressure inside the eye)
- uncontrolled movements
- unusual excitement and restlessness (especially in children)
- severe skin reactions.

If you get any side effects, even those not listed in this leaflet, tell your
doctor, pharmacist or nurse. You can also report side effects directly through
the national reporting system at www.agenziafarmaco.gov.it/it/responsabili.
By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this
medicine.
5. HOW TO STORE AGIVERT
This medicine does not require any particular storage conditions.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date that is stated on the pack after Scad. The expiry date
refers to the last day of that month.
Do not dispose of any medicine in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
6. CONTENTS OF THE PACK AND OTHER INFORMATION
What Agivert contains
- The active ingredients are cinnarizine and dimenhydrinate. Each tablet contains 20 mg of cinnarizine and 40 mg of dimenhydrinate.
- The other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, hypromellose, sodium croscarmellose, talc and magnesium stearate.

Agivert tablets are white, round and convex in shape.
Agivert is available in packs of 20 or 50 tablets.
