1. WHAT IS VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici is an antidepressant belonging to a group of medicines
called serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRI). This group of
medicines is used for the treatment of depression and other conditions, such as anxiety
disorders. It is believed that people who are depressed and/or anxious have lower levels of
serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain. It is not fully understood how antidepressants
work, however they may help by raising the levels of serotonin and noradrenaline in the
brain.
VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici is a treatment for adults suffering from depression. It is also a
treatment for adults with the following anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorder, social
anxiety disorder (fear of or tendency to avoid social situations) and panic disorder (panic
attacks). Appropriate treatment of depression or anxiety disorder is important to help you
feel better. If left untreated, your condition may not resolve and may become more serious and more
difficult to treat.
2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici
Do not take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici
- if you are allergic to venlafaxine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if you are currently taking or have taken within the last 14 days any of the medicines known as irreversible monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), used to treat depression or Parkinson's disease. Taking an irreversible MAOI together with VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici may cause serious or even life-threatening side effects. You must also wait at least 7 days after stopping treatment with VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici before taking any irreversible MAOI (see also sections “Serotonin Syndrome” and “Other medicines and VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici”)
Warnings and precautions
Medicines such as VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici (so-called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs)) can cause symptoms of sexual dysfunction (see section 4). In some cases, these symptoms have been reported to persist after stopping treatment.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist beforetaking VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici:
- If you are using other medicines that, when taken together with VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici, may increase the risk of developing serotonin syndrome (see section “Other medicines and VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici”).
- If you have eye problems, such as certain types of glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye)
- If you have a history of high blood pressure
- If you have a history of heart problems
- If you have been told you have an irregular heartbeat.
- If you have a history of seizures
- If you have a history of low sodium levels in your blood (hyponatraemia)
- If you have a tendency to bruise easily or a tendency to bleed easily (history of bleeding disorders), or if you are using other medicines that may increase the risk of bleeding, e.g. warfarin (used to prevent blood clots).
- If you have a history of mania or bipolar disorder (feeling overexcited or euphoric)
- If you have a history of aggressive behaviour
VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici may cause a feeling of restlessness or inability to remain sitting or still during the very first weeks of treatment. If you experience these symptoms, you should report them to your doctor.
If you experience any of these conditions, talk to your doctor before using VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici.
Suicidal thoughts and worsening of your depression or anxiety disorder
If you are depressed and/or suffer from anxiety disorders, you may sometimes have thoughts of harming yourself or killing yourself. These may increase when you first start taking antidepressants, as it takes time for all medicines like these to start working, usually about two weeks but sometimes longer.
You are more likely to have these thoughts:
- If you have had previous thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
- If you are young. Information obtained from clinical studies has shown an increased risk of suicidal behaviour in young people (under 25 years of age) with psychiatric disorders, who were treated with an antidepressant.
If you have thoughts of harming yourself or committing suicide at any time, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately.
It may help to tell a relative or close friend that you are depressed or suffering from thoughts that your depression or anxiety is getting worse, or if you are worried about changes in your behaviour.
Dry mouth
Dry mouth is reported in 10% of patients treated with venlafaxine. This may increase the risk of tooth decay (cavities). You should therefore pay particular attention to your oral hygiene.
Diabetes
Blood glucose levels may be altered due to VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici.
Therefore, it is possible that the dosages of medicines for diabetes may need to be adjusted.
Children and adolescents
VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents under the age of 18. Also, you should know that patients under 18 years of age have a greater risk of side effects, such as suicide attempts, suicidal thoughts and hostility (mainly aggression, oppositional behaviour and anger) when taking this class of medicines. Despite this, the doctor may prescribe VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici to patients under the age of 18 because they believe it is in their best interest.
If the doctor has prescribed this medicine for a patient under 18 years of age, and you want to discuss it, talk to the doctor. You should inform the doctor if any of the symptoms listed occur or worsen when a patient under 18 years of age is taking VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici. Furthermore, the long-term effects of VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici on growth, maturation and cognitive and behavioural development in this age group have not been demonstrated.
Other medicines and VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
The doctor will decide whether you can use VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici with other medicines.
Do not start or stop taking any other medicines, including over-the-counter medicines, herbal remedies, before asking your doctor or pharmacist.
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors used to treat depression or Parkinson's disease must notbe taken with VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici. Tell your doctor if you have taken these medicines in the last 14 days (MAOIs: see section “What you need to know before you take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici”)
- Serotonin Syndrome:a potentially life-threatening condition, Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), can occur with treatment with venlafaxine, especially when taken with other medicines. Examples of these medicines include:
- triptans (used for migraine)
- medicines for the treatment of depression, for example SNRIs, SSRIs, tricyclics, or medicines containing lithium
- medicines containing amphetamines (used to treat attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), narcolepsy and obesity)
- medicines containing linezolid, an antibiotic (used to treat infections)
- medicines containing moclobemide, an MAOI (used to treat depression)
- medicines containing sibutramine (used for weight loss)
- medicines containing tramadol, fentanyl, tapentadol, pethidine, or pentazocine (used to treat severe pain)
- medicines containing dextromethorphan (used to treat cough)
- medicines containing methadone (used to treat opioid dependence or acute pain)
- medicines that contain methylene blue (used to treat high levels of methaemoglobin in the blood)
- St John's Wort preparations (also called Hypericum Perforatum, a herbal remedy used to treat mild depression)
- products containing tryptophan (used for sleep disorders and depression)
- antipsychotics (used to treat disorders whose symptoms are hearing, seeing or experiencing things that do not exist, false beliefs, unjustified suspicion, confused reasoning and social withdrawal).
Signs and symptoms of serotonin syndrome may include a combination of:
restlessness, hallucinations, loss of coordination, rapid heartbeat, increased body temperature, rapid fluctuations in blood pressure, hyperactive reflexes, diarrhoea, coma, nausea, vomiting.
In its most severe form, serotonin syndrome can resemble Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS). Signs and symptoms of NMS may include a combination of fever, rapid breathing, sweating, severe muscle rigidity, confusion and increased muscle enzymes (determined by blood tests).
Immediately inform your doctor or go to the nearest Emergency Room if you think you have serotonin syndrome.
Talk to your doctor if you are taking medicines that may affect your heart rate.
Examples of these medicines include:
- antiarrhythmics such as quinidine, amiodarone, sotalol or dofetilide (used to treat irregular heartbeat)
- antipsychotics such as thioridazine (see also serotonin syndrome above)
- antibiotics such as erythromycin or moxifloxacin (used to treat bacterial infections) antihistamines (used to treat allergies) Also, the following medicines may interfere with VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici and must be used with caution. It is particularly important that you tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using medicines that contain:
- ketoconazole (an antifungal medicine)
- haloperidol or risperidone (for the treatment of psychiatric disorders)
- metoprolol (a beta-blocker for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart problems)
VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici with food, drinks and alcohol
You should take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici with food (see section “How to take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici”).
You should not drink alcohol while taking VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, suspect you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. You should only take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici after discussing the potential benefits and risks to the fetus with your doctor.
Make sure your midwife and/or your doctor are informed that you are being treated with VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici.
Medicines similar to this medicine (SSRIs), if taken during pregnancy, may increase the risk of a serious paediatric condition called persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) which causes rapid breathing in the newborn and a bluish skin colour. These symptoms usually appear within the first 24 hours of birth. Immediately inform your midwife and/or your doctor if your baby should present these symptoms.
If you are taking this medicine during pregnancy, your baby may present other symptoms in addition to breathing problems if not adequately fed at birth. If your baby presents these symptoms at birth and you are worried, ask for advice from your doctor and/or midwife.
VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici is excreted in breast milk. There is a risk of an effect on the
child. Therefore, you should discuss this with your doctor, who will decide whether to discontinue
breastfeeding or therapy with this medicine.
Driving and operating machinery
Do not drive and do not use tools or machinery until you understand what effects VENLAFAXINA DOC
Generici has on you.
3. HOW TO TAKE VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici
Take this medicine following exactly the instructions of your doctor. If you have doubts
consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended starting dose for the treatment of depression, generalized anxiety disorder
and social anxiety disorder is 75 mg per day.
The doctor may gradually increase the dose and, if necessary, up to a maximum dose of
375 mg per day for depression.
If you are being treated for panic disorder, the doctor will start with a low dose (37.5 mg) and
then gradually increase the dose.
The maximum dose for generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and panic disorder is
225 mg per day.
Take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici at about the same time each day, in the morning and evening. The
capsules must be swallowed whole with a liquid and must not be opened, broken, chewed or
dissolved.
You must take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici with food.
If you have liver or kidney problems, talk to your doctor, as a dose adjustment of VENLAFAXINA DOC
Generici may be necessary.
Do not stop treatment with this medicine without consulting your doctor (see the
paragraph “If you stop taking VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici”).
If you take more VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici than you should
Contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you take more of VENLAFAXINA
DOC Generici than prescribed by your doctor.
Symptoms of a possible overdose may include rapid heartbeat, changes
in consciousness (ranging from drowsiness to coma), blurred vision, seizures, and
vomiting.
If you forget to take VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you are due to take the
next dose when you remember the forgotten dose, skip the forgotten dose and take only one
dose as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Do not take more than the
daily amount of VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici
that has been prescribed to you in one day.
If you stop taking VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici
Do not stop treatment or reduce the dose without your doctor's advice, even if you feel better.
If your doctor believes you no longer need VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici, they may ask you to
gradually reduce the dose before stopping treatment completely. It is known that undesirable effects occur when patients stop treatment with VENLAFAXINA
DOC Generici, especially when VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici is stopped abruptly or
when the dose is reduced too quickly. Some patients may experience symptoms such as
fatigue, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, insomnia, nightmares, dry
mouth, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, nervousness, agitation, confusion, tinnitus (ringing
in the ears), tingling or rarely sensations of electric shock, weakness, sweating,
seizures or flu-like symptoms.
Your doctor will explain how to gradually stop treatment with VENLAFAXINA
DOC Generici. If you experience any of these or other symptoms that bother you, contact
your doctor for further advice.
If you have any questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.
If you experience any of the following effects, do not take any more VENLAFAXINA DOC
Generici. Seek immediate medical attention, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

- Prolonged bleeding - if you cut or injure yourself, it may take longer than usual for the bleeding to stop.
Do not be concerned if you notice small granules or white pellets in your stool after taking this medicine.
Inside the VENLAFAXINA DOC Generici capsules are spheroids (small white pellets) that contain the active ingredient (venlafaxine). These spheroids are
released from the capsule in your stomach. Traveling along the
gastrointestinal tract, they slowly release the venlafaxine. The “shell” of the spheroids does not dissolve and
is eliminated in the stool. Therefore, even if you see spheroids in your stool, the dose of the
