1. What is EUSTAMYL and what is it used for
EUSTAMYL contains the active ingredient ketotifene fumarate which belongs to a class of medicines with
antiallergic activity.
EUSTAMYL is used for the local treatment of allergic inflammation (spring,
atopic and others) of short and long duration of the eyes such as:
- conjunctivitis
- keratoconjunctivitis.
See your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after using the medicine.
2. What you need to know before using EUSTAMYL
Do not use EUSTAMYL
- if you are allergic to the active ingredient or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- if you are pregnant and breastfeeding (see “Pregnancy and breastfeeding”).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using EUSTAMYL.
You should only use EUSTAMYL to treat the external part of the eyes.
When applying to the eyes, EUSTAMYL may cause a slight and fleeting burning sensation.
Other medicines and EUSTAMYL
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other
medicines.
If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between each application.
The use of ketotifen in oral formulations may increase the effects of medicines with a
depressive effect on the central nervous system (such as tranquilizers, used for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia and
hypnotics, used to induce or facilitate sleep), antihistamines (medicines used against
allergies) and alcohol. Although these effects have not been observed with the use of ketotifen as eye drops, the
possibility that they may still occur cannot be ruled out.
EUSTAMYL with alcohol
Ketotifen may interact with alcohol, but this is unlikely to happen, as the amount
of ketotifen in the body is low following administration of EUSTAMYL as eye drops.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy, or if you are breastfeeding with breast
milk, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Pregnancy
Do not use EUSTAMYL if you are pregnant, unless your doctor considers it strictly necessary.
Breastfeeding
As it is unlikely that the medicine will pass into breast milk, you can use EUSTAMYL during
breastfeeding.
Fertility
There are no data on the effects of this medicine on fertility in men.
Driving and operating machinery
If you are a sensitive subject, EUSTAMYL, at the beginning of treatment, may reduce your ability to
react.
If you have blurred vision or feel sleepy, do not drive vehicles and do not operate machinery.
