Read this leaflet carefully before using this medicine as it contains important information for you.
- Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again.
- If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- This medicine has been prescribed for you only. Do not pass it on to others, even if they have the same symptoms as you, as it may be harmful.
- If any side effects occur, including those not listed in this leaflet, tell your pharmacist. See section 4.
- Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if your symptoms worsen after 4 days

1. What TETRAMIL is and what it is used for
TETRAMIL contains pheniramine maleate, a medicine to treat allergy (antihistamine) and
tetrizoline, a medicine to relieve swelling (decongestant).
TETRAMIL is indicated in adultsand adolescents 12 years of ageand older for the treatment of:
- Allergies and inflammation of the conjunctiva (a membrane of the eye), accompanied by excessive sensitivity to light, tearing, foreign body sensation in the eye, pain.
See your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 4 days.
2. What you need to know before using TETRAMIL
Do not use TETRAMIL
- if you are allergic to pheniramine maleate or tetrizoline hydrochloride or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- if you are allergic to some medicines to clear the nose (nasal decongestants) such as: xylometazoline, oxymetazoline and tetrizoline
- if you suffer from increased pressure of the fluid contained within the eye (glaucoma)
- if you suffer from serious eye diseases
- if you are pregnant (see section “Pregnancy and Breastfeeding”)
- if you are breastfeeding (see section “Pregnancy and Breastfeeding”)
- if you are taking medicines belonging to the class of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (used to treat depression) (see section “Tetramil and other medicines”). Donot use in children under 12 years of age.
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using TETRAMIL.
In particular, consult your doctor:
- if you suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension)
- if you suffer from increased thyroid function (hyperthyroidism), i.e. a gland located at the base of the neck
- if you suffer from heart disorders
- if you suffer from increased blood sugar levels (diabetes)
- if you suffer from infections or pus in the eye
- if you have foreign bodies in the eye
- if you have eye problems of various kinds (mechanical, chemical, from heat) Prolonged use of topical products in particular can lead to sensitization phenomena. In this case, discontinue treatment and resort to suitable therapy.
If symptoms persist or worsen after a short period of treatment, consult your doctor.
Prolonged use can lead to inconveniences, do not use this medicine for more than 4 days
consecutively, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, as otherwise
undesirable effects may occur.
Tetramil multi-dose bottle and contact lenses:
Do not use Tetramil multi-dose bottle if you wear contact lenses as it contains a preservative
(benzalkonium chloride).
Remove the contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before re-applying them.
In these cases, you can use the single-dose container which does not contain preservatives.
Children
Do not use TETRAMIL in children between 0 and 12 years of age. (see section 2. Do not use
TETRAMIL).
Other medicines and TETRAMIL
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any
other medicine.
In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking:
- medicines belonging to the class of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (used to treat depression) as the simultaneous intake of these products can determine the onset of a serious increase in blood pressure, therefore the simultaneous administration is contraindicated.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Donot use this medicine if you are pregnant or if you are breastfeeding.
Ask your doctor for advice.
Driving and using machines
No effects of TETRAMIL on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery are known.
TETRAMIL multi-dose bottle contains benzalkonium chloride, boric acid and borax
This medicine contains 0.044 mg of benzalkonium chloride per maximum daily dose (6+6
drops), equivalent to 0.1 mg/ml.
Benzalkonium chloride can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and can lead to
a change in their color. Remove the contact lenses before using this medicine and wait
15 minutes before re-applying them.
Benzalkonium chloride can also cause irritation to the eyes, especially if you have dry eyes or
corneal disorders (the most superficial transparent layer of the eye). If you experience an
abnormal sensation in the eye, burning or pain after using this medicine, talk to your doctor.
Do not administer to children under 2 years of age as this medicine contains boron and
may compromise fertility in the future.
3. How to use TETRAMIL
Use this medicine following exactly as stated in this leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is: one or two drops to be applied to the eye 2-3 times a day.
Do not exceed the recommended doses.
A higher dosage of the product, even if taken locally and for a short period of time,
may lead to serious undesirable effects on the entire body (See section 4
“Possible side effects”).
Instructions for use of the multidose bottle
- 1) To open, press the closing cap and unscrew simultaneously.
- 2) After use, close tightly by screwing back on.
Instructions for use of the single-dose container

- 1) Separate the container from the others
- 2) Open the container by rotating and pulling the cap
- 3) Use immediately after opening
- 4) After use, discard the container even if you have used it partially.
If you use more TETRAMIL than you should
If you use more TETRAMIL than you should, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.
The product, if accidentally ingested or if used for a long period at excessive doses, may
cause toxic phenomena.
Accidental ingestion of the medicine, especially in children, may cause a reduction
in the activity of the nervous system which may manifest with severe physical and mental relaxation
(pronounced sedation i.e. strong drowsiness), coma.
If you forget to use TETRAMIL
Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop using TETRAMIL
If you have any doubts about using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Before stopping treatment, consult your doctor.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
During treatment with Tetramil you may experience allergic reactions, in which case
STOPtreatment immediately and contact your doctor, who, if necessary, will be able to give you
suitable treatment.
During treatment with TETRAMIL you may also experience the following side effects:
Effects relating to the eye

- pupil dilation
- increased pressure inside the eye
Effects relating to the whole body
- increased blood pressure (hypertension)
- heart disorders
- increased blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia)
- nausea
- headache
In children, if accidentally ingested, the preparation may cause a state of drowsiness
even profound (stupor), and decreased activity (hypotonia).

If you experience any side effects, including those not listed in this leaflet, please
tell your doctor. You can also report side effects directly through the national reporting system at http:// www.agenziafarmaco.gov.it/content/come-segnalare-una-

By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the
safety of this medicine.
5. How to store TETRAMIL
This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
The multidose vialshould not be used for more than 30 days after the first opening of the container.
The single-dose containerdoes not contain preservatives: after administration, discard the vial
even if you have only used it partially.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack after Exp.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not use this medicine if you notice that the vial or the single-dose container are perforated and/or
damaged.
Do not dispose of any medicine in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to
dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
What TETRAMIL contains
Multidose bottle (100 ml of solution contains):
- The active ingredients are: pheniramine maleate 0.3 g and tetryzoline hydrochloride 0.05 g
- The other ingredients are: Boric acid; Sodium chloride; Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose; Borax; Disodium edetate; Benzalkonium chloride; Water for injections. Single-dose container (100 ml of solution contains):
- The active ingredients are: pheniramine maleate 0.3 g and tetryzoline hydrochloride 0.05 g
- The other ingredients are: Boric acid; Sodium chloride; Disodium edetate; Borax; Water for injections
Description of the appearance of TETRAMIL and contents of the pack
TETRAMIL multi-dose bottle:dropper bottle containing 10 ml of clear and
colourless solution.
TETRAMIL single-dose container:pack containing 10 single-dose containers of 0.5 ml of
clear and colourless solution enclosed in PE-Al sachets.
