1. What is SPASMOMEN and what is it for
SPASMOMEN contains the active ingredient otilonium bromide, a substance with spasmolytic action
(i.e., induces relaxation) at the level of the smooth musculature of the digestive tract.
SPASMOMEN is used in adults in the treatment of:
- irritable bowel syndrome (an intestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain);
- spasmodic-painful manifestations (strong contractions of the musculature associated with pain) of the distal enteric (intestinal) tract.
2. What you need to know before you take SPASMOMEN
Do not take SPASMOMEN
If you are allergic to the active ingredient (otilonium bromide) or to any of the other ingredients of
this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking SPASMOMEN.
Take SPASMOMEN with caution:
- if you suffer from glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye);
- in case of prostatic hypertrophy (increase in volume of the prostate);
- in case of pyloric stenosis (gastrointestinal disease characterized by a narrowing of the pylorus, valve located between the stomach and the intestine).
Children and adolescents
The use of Spasmomen is not recommended in patients under the age of 18 years.
Other medicines and SPASMOMEN
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take
any other medicines.
No interaction studies have been conducted.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy, or if you are breastfeeding with
breast milk, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take SPASMOMEN only if absolutely
necessary and under strict medical supervision.
Driving and operating machinery
SPASMOMEN does not alter or alters negligibly the ability to drive vehicles or use
machinery.
SPASMOMEN 40 mg film-coated tablets contains lactose.If your doctor has
diagnosed you with intolerance to certain sugars, contact him before taking this medicine.
SPASMOMEN 40 mg film-coated tabletscontains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) of sodium
per tablet, i.e. essentially ‘sodium-free’.
3. How to take SPASMOMEN
Take this medicine following exactly the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
If you have any doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is 1 film-coated tablet to be taken, orally, 2 to 3 times a day according to the doctor's judgement.
The duration of treatment will be established by the doctor.
The tablets must be swallowed whole, with a glass of water, preferably before
meals.
Use in children and adolescents
The use of Spasmomen is not recommended in patients under the age of 18 years.
Use in the elderly

Use in patients with liver or kidney problems

If you take more SPASMOMEN than you should
In case of accidental ingestion/intake of an excessive dose of SPASMOMEN, immediately notify your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.
In animals, otilonium bromide has been shown to be non-toxic. Consequently, in humans
no particular problems should arise due to overdose.
In the specific case, symptomatic and supportive therapy is recommended.
If you forget to take SPASMOMEN
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you have any doubts about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following side effects.
Uncommon(may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
Dry mouth
Nausea
Stomach pain or in the upper part of the abdomen (upper abdominal pain)
Itchy skin
Skin redness (erythema)
Fatigue
Feeling of weakness
Headache
Dizziness (a feeling of spinning or loss of balance)
Not known(frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
Allergic reactions whose signs may include the appearance on the skin of itchy, raised lesions (“urticaria”), localized swelling under the skin mainly on the face, lips, tongue
or throat, with difficulty swallowing (“angioedema”).

5. How to store SPASMOMEN
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack after ‘Exp’. The
expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not use this medicine if you notice visible signs of deterioration.
Do not dispose of any medicine in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to
dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
What SPASMOMEN contains
Each film-coated tablet contains:
Active ingredient: otilonium bromide 40 mg
Other components:
Core: lactose monohydrate, rice starch, sodium starch glycolate type A, magnesium stearate.
Coating: hypromellose, titanium dioxide, macrogol (polyethylene glycol 4000, polyethylene glycol
6000), talc.

Round, biconvex, film-coated tablets, white or almost white in colour.
Blister containing 30 film-coated tablets in a cardboard box.
