PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC CATEGORY
Central nervous system depressant.
Reduces neuronal hyperexcitability and muscle hypercontractility.
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
In neurology and pediatrics: clinical conditions expressing a state of hyperexcitability of the
central and peripheral nervous system, supported by a magnesium deficiency.
In obstetrics: vomiting, insomnia, irritability, muscle cramps, painful uterine contractions,
eclampsia.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Severe renal failure.
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of the excipients.
Do not administer to subjects undergoing digitalis therapy.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
There are no particular precautions. In case of persistence of symptoms or their
worsening, consult your doctor.
INTERACTIONS
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have recently taken any other medicines,
including those without a prescription.
The administration of magnesium can determine a reduced absorption of
tetracyclines and therefore it is advisable not to administer SOLUMAG simultaneously
with tetracycline-based medicines but 3-4 hours apart between administrations. Quinolones should be administered at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after
the administration of magnesium-based products to avoid interference with their
absorption.
In the case of concomitant administration of magnesium and cholecalciferol, it is also advisable to monitor calcemia in order to avoid the possibility of hypercalcemic episodes.
The concomitant use of preparations containing calcium or phosphate salts is discouraged as such
products prevent the absorption of magnesium. The simultaneous assumption of
magnesium-based products with drugs depressing the Central Nervous System can
potentiate the effects on the CNS of magnesium and must be carefully evaluated.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
In patients with renal insufficiency, it is necessary to reduce the dosage and monitor
renal function and magnesemia.
It is appropriate to consider the possibility of depression occurring during treatment
of cardiovascular and respiratory activity.
SOLUMAG contains sucrose: if your doctor has diagnosed you with an intolerance to
certain sugars, contact him before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
It is advisable that during pregnancy and breastfeeding the assumption of the drug takes place under
medical control and in cases of actual need.
Effects on ability to drive and use machines
SOLUMAG does not alter the ability to drive vehicles or use machinery.
Important information about some excipients
SOLUMAG contains sucrose: patients with rare hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase
isomaltase deficiency should not take this medicine.
DOSAGE, ADMINISTRATION AND DURATION OF TREATMENT
As prescribed by the doctor. The recommended dosage is 1 sachet twice a day
(for a total of 4.5 g of magnesium pidolate/day). Dissolve the contents of the
sachet in half a glass of water.
OVERDOSE
In case of overdose, consult your doctor.
Cases of hypermagnesemia have been reported following massive administration of
magnesium or during the treatment of patients with severe renal failure. The symptoms
observed were: cardiac rhythm disturbances, respiratory depression and disturbances of
neuromuscular transmission.
Treatment involves rehydration with restoration of abundant diuresis or forced diuresis.
In case of renal insufficiency, dialysis treatment is recommended.
In case of accidental ingestion/intake of an excessive dose of SOLUMAG
immediately notify your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, SOLUMAG can cause side effects, although not everyone
experience them.
