Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet, or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

1. What is Scabiacid and what is it used for
Scabiacid contains the active ingredient permethrin and belongs to a group of medicines called
“pyrethroid ectoparasiticides” used against external parasites (ectoparasites). Scabiacid is used for the
treatment of scabies in adults and children starting from 2 months of age.
What is scabies?
Scabies is a skin disease that causes intense itching. It is caused by microscopic mites that
burrow into the superficial layer of the skin, causing the formation of small blisters and red papules. The
itching is caused by the skin's reaction.
Scabies is contagious and is usually transmitted through prolonged skin contact or through
sexual contact with an infected person. The infection spreads more easily in crowded places and in
situations where there is close contact.
2. What you need to know before using Scabiacid
Do not use Scabiacid:
- if you are allergic to the active ingredient, to other pyrethroids or pyrethrins (natural compounds with insecticidal properties), to chrysanthemums or other similar plants (composites) or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Scabiacid:
Scabiacid is for external use only and should not be ingested.
Carefully avoid contact of the cream with eyes, mucous membranes (inside the nose or throat, in the genital areas) or open wounds; if this should accidentally happen, rinse immediately with water.
If you need to apply the cream to other people, use gloves.
Other medicines and Scabiacid
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
The doctor will assess the need to stop any use of corticosteroids (medicines with anti-inflammatory properties) before treatment with Scabiacid. Corticosteroids in fact reduce the immune response to the mite, potentially worsening the scabies infestation.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant, suspect or are planning a pregnancy, or if you are breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Permethrin can cross the placenta and a small amount passes into breast milk.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicine should only be used if absolutely necessary and under the direct supervision of a doctor.
Driving and operating machinery
Scabiacid does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.
Scabiacidis harmful to all types of insects and also to aquatic life forms (fish, daphnia, algae).
Avoid contamination of aquariums and terrariums.
Scabiacid contains paraffinswhich can reduce the effectiveness and consequently the reliability of latex products (e.g. condoms, diaphragms) used simultaneously.
Scabiacid contains cetostearyl alcoholwhich can cause localised skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
Scabiacid contains benzyl alcoholwhich can cause allergic reactions and mild local irritation.
3. How to use Scabiacid
Use this medicine following exactly as described in this leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Apply Scabiacid to clean, dry, and cool skin, avoid application immediately after taking a hot bath.
Leave the cream on for 8-12 hours. If you need to wash your hands before 8 hours have passed since application, it is necessary to reapply the cream to your hands.
You can wash your body only after 8-12 hours have passed since the cream was applied.
Usually a single application of Scabiacid is sufficient to eliminate the infestation; if the lesions do not heal or if new ones appear, your doctor will prescribe a second application after 7-14 days.
Contact your doctor if you do not notice any improvement or if you notice a worsening of symptoms after the second course of treatment.
Health education notes
People you have been in contact with, especially family members and partners, should see a doctor as soon as possible. The doctor will decide whether these people also need to be treated. If the infected people who have been in contact with you are not treated promptly, there is a risk that they may re-infect you with scabies.
In addition, you must:
- keep your nails short and clean them carefully;
- change clothes, bed linen and towels every day for a period of 7 days and wash them at a temperature of at least 50°C;
- store non-washable items (e.g. outerwear) for 7 days in a sealed plastic bag.
Method of administration
Children
Apply a thin layer of cream to the entire body of the child including neck, face, ears and scalp, paying particular attention to the areas between the fingers of the hands and feet, under the nails and on the wrists, armpits, palms, soles of the feet, navel, external genitalia and buttocks. Do not apply the cream to the area around the mouth and around the eyes.
Check your child, prevent them from licking the cream on their hands (e.g. by wearing gloves).
Adults
Apply a thin layer of cream to the entire body, including scalp, neck, palms of the hands and soles of the feet, paying particular attention to the areas between the fingers of the hands and feet, under the nails and on the wrists, elbows, armpits, navel, external genitalia, breasts and buttocks. Do not apply the cream to the area around the eyes.
Elderly
Elderly patients (aged 65 years and over) should use the cream in the same way as adults.
How much Scabiacid to use
The 30g tube of Scabiacid 5% cream is usually sufficient for a single application to the entire body. Some adults may require a larger amount of cream. In this case, the 60g pack can be used.
Use in adults, the elderly and children over 12 years of age
The recommended dose is up to 30 g of Scabiacid. Some adults may need a larger amount of cream, in which case a 60 g tube or 2 x 30 g tubes can be used. However, you should never exceed 60 g per single application.
Use in children from 6 to 12 years of age
The recommended dose is up to 15 g of cream (which corresponds to half a 30 g tube or a quarter of a 60 g tube).
Children aged 2 months or older and less than 6 years
The recommended dose is up to 7.5 g of cream (which corresponds to a quarter of a 30 g tube or an eighth of a 60 g tube).
Children under 2 months of age
Experience with use in this age group is insufficient.
Application of the cream by older children should be carried out under the supervision of an adult.
If you use more Scabiacid than you should
In case of ingestion/accidental intake of an excessive dose of Scabiacid, immediately inform your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.
No cases of permethrin overdose have been reported since Scabiacid was placed on the market.
Excessive application of cream to the skin may cause local irritation (hypersensitivity reaction). Treatment of these disorders should be symptomatic, i.e. only to remedy the symptoms.
Treatment method in case of accidental intake of an excessive dose of Scabiacid
The treatment to be implemented in case of accidental ingestion of the cream by a child is gastric lavage, to be performed within 2 hours of ingestion.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects are listed in order of frequency:
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
- skin sensations such as tingling or prickling (paresthesia), burning skin;
- itching, rash, dry skin.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)
- headache (cephalalgia).
Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)
- difficulty breathing (dyspnea) in patients with allergies, superficial skin injury (excoriation), skin pimples (folliculitis), skin discoloration.
Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from available data)
- nausea, contact dermatitis, urticaria.
The itching may continue for 2-4 weeks after the end of treatment. This is due to an allergic reaction to dead scabies mites. This is a normal phenomenon and does not mean that the treatment has not been effective.

5. How to store Scabiacid
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging after “Expiry”. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
The expiry date refers to the medicine in intact packaging, correctly stored.
Store at a temperature below 30°C. Do not freeze.
Do not dispose of any medicine in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of
medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
What Scabiacid contains
- The active ingredient is: permethrin. 100 g of 5% cream contains 5 g of permethrin.
- The other ingredients are: cetostearyl alcohol, paraffin, cetomacrogol 1000, isopropyl myristate, benzyl alcohol, purified water.

Scabiacid is a cream contained in an aluminum tube of 30 g or 60 g with a polypropylene cap.
