Other medicines and Neo Borocillina Tosse
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Neo Borocillina Tosse.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicine.
In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken:
- medicines belonging to the class of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (see section 2 “ DO NOT take Neo Borocillina Tosse”)such as:
- medicines for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (for example selegiline or rasagiline);
- medicines such as some antidepressants or antipsychotics: (isocarboxazide, nialamide, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, iproniazide, iproclozide, moclobemide and toloxatone) Neo Borocillina Tosse can interact with these medicines and alterations in mental status (e.g. agitation, hallucinations, coma) and other effects such as a body temperature above 38°C, increased heart rate, breathing difficulties, unstable blood pressure, exaggeration of reflexes, muscle rigidity, lack of coordination and/or gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea )can occur even when treatment with these medicines has been stopped for less than 2 weeks;
- the following medicines, as they can increase the levels of dextromethorphan in the blood by inhibiting its metabolism:
- medicines for treating depression such as fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline and bupropion (see section 2. “Do not take Neo Borocillina Tosse”);
- medicines for treating severe pain or reducing withdrawal symptoms in cases of dependence (methadone);
- medicines for treating psychiatric disorders (haloperidol, thioridazine, perphenazine);
- medicines for treating heart rhythm disorders (amiodarone, quinidine, propafenone);
- medicines for treating cardiac rhythm abnormalities (flecainide);

- a medicine used for the treatment of stomach disorders due to high acidity (cimetidine);
- a medicine used for the treatment of AIDS (ritonavir);
- medicines to reduce cholesterol levels (berberine);
- medicines for the treatment of anxiety or insomnia (hypnotics, sedatives or anxiolytics), as they can increase the effects of dextromethorphan on the central nervous system; mucolytic medicines, as a reduction in the cough reflex can lead to (excessive) accumulation of mucus.
The concomitant use of Neo Borocillina Tosse and sedative medicines such as benzodiazepines or related medicines increases the risk of drowsiness, difficulty breathing (respiratory depression), coma and can be life-threatening. For this reason, concomitant use should only be considered when other treatment options are not possible.
However, if your doctor prescribes Neo Borocillina Tosse together with sedative medicines, the dose and duration of concomitant treatment must be established by your doctor. Tell your doctor about all the sedative medicines you are taking and carefully follow your doctor's recommendations on dosage. It may be helpful to inform friends or relatives to pay attention to the signs and symptoms above. See your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
Neo Borocillina Tosse with alcohol
If you are taking Neo Borocillina Tosse you should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages and medicines containing alcohol: alcohol increases the sedative effect of dextromethorphan with a possible reduction in attention levels (see section “ Driving and operating machinery”).

If your doctor has diagnosed you with an intolerance to certain sugars, contact him before taking this medicine.
