1. What is Flurekain eye drops and what are they used for
Flurekain eye drops contain the active ingredients oxibuprocaine and fluorescein. Oxibuprocaine is
a local anesthetic used to temporarily numb the surface
of the eye. Fluorescein is a coloring agent that facilitates the diagnosis of corneal damage.
These eye drops are for diagnostic use. They are used in the context of measuring
intraocular pressure and examinations for corneal damage.
2. What you need to know before you are given Flurekain eye drops
Flurekain eye drops must not be given:
- if you are allergic to oxibuprocaine, fluorescein or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if you are allergic to other local anesthetics belonging to the para-aminobenzoic acid group or in case of allergy to additives based on parabens. Warnings and precautions
Remove contact lenses before this eye drop is administered, as the
fluorescein contained in this medicine may cause discoloration of soft contact lenses. Contact lenses can be reinserted one hour after
administration of this medicine.
Avoid rubbing your eye during the anesthetic effect.
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of a severe anaphylactic/allergic reaction
(see section 4).
Other medicines and Flurekain eye drops
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take
any other medicines. These eye drops may reduce the effect of sulfonamides
(medicines used to treat infections).
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy, or if you are breastfeeding
with breast milk, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before you are
given this medicine.

for adults and children is 1-2 drops per eye. The surface of the eye will become
numb within one minute, allowing the measurement of intraocular pressure.
If applying various different medicines to the same eye, you should wait
at least 5 minutes between each administration.
