COMPOSITION
Each tablet contains:
Active ingredient:
Ferro gluconate 695 mg (equivalent to 80 mg of Fe++)
Excipients:ascorbic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate
monohydrate, sodium saccharinate, aspartame, orange aroma, yellow orange (E110).

THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Treatment of iron deficiency anemias.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of the excipients.
Hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, all non-sideropenic anemic forms, in particular
hemolytic anemias, chronic pancreatitis, liver cirrhosis.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Treatment must be preceded by a precise diagnosis of sideropenic anemia.
INTERACTIONS
If tetracyclines are administered simultaneously, their absorption is
prevented.
Antacids reduce iron absorption: an interval of 2-3 hours should elapse between taking FERROGYN and taking
these preparations.
There is a risk of toxicity with penicillamine when treatment with iron derivatives is stopped.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
ATTENTION: each FERROGYN tablet contains a source of phenylalanine.
ATTENTION: each FERROGYN tablet contains 180.91 mg or 8.01 meq of sodium.
The administration of iron may be toxic, especially for children, at doses higher
than 400 mg (more than 5 tablets).
The product can be taken safely by people with celiac disease.
Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding
FERROGYN can be administered during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The iron requirement in the second part of pregnancy is approximately
around 6 mg/day.
In case of iron deficiency, the dosage must be adjusted according to the response to
therapy and gastrointestinal tolerance.
A high dose is better tolerated if divided into 3 or 4 administrations.
DOSAGE, ADMINISTRATION AND DURATION OF TREATMENT
The daily requirement in adult subjects (male) is generally 13 g/Kg or 1
mg/day.
The daily requirement for female subjects (normal menstruation) is
generally 21 g/Kg or 1.4 mg/day.
During the last 6 months of pregnancy, the requirement increases: 80 g/Kg/day or,
generally, from 5 to 6 mg/day.
Children:22 g/Kg.
In case of iron deficiency, the dose should be between 50 and 250 mg/day, depending on
the degree of anemia.
Adult dosage: 1 effervescent tablet per day, dissolved in water half an hour before
the meal.
In case of severe anemia, the dose may be modified at the doctor's discretion based on
hematological examinations to be performed 2 or 3 times a week after the start of treatment.
Children: from half to 1 tablet depending on body weight.
If anemia should persist after 3 weeks of treatment, another
cause should be investigated.
OVERDOSE
An overdose due to accidental administration of a high dose is fatal for
children.
IT IS THEREFORE ESSENTIAL TO KEEP THE MEDICINE OUT OF THE REACH AND SIGHT
OF CHILDREN.
In case of accidental ingestion of an excessive dose of FERROGYN, immediately notify
the doctor or go to the nearest hospital.
UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS
Vomiting, nausea, diarrhea may occur, which in case of overdose may be
severe and complicated by gastrointestinal bleeding.
During the administration of iron-containing preparations, an innocuous
blackening of the stool may occur.
