- 3. How to use Ursitan
- 4. Possible side effects
- 5. How to store Ursitan
- 6. Contents of the pack and other information
1. What is Ursitan, solution and what is it used for
Ursitan belongs to a pharmaceutical category known as aminoglycoside antibiotics and is
used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections such as purulent bacterial conjunctivitis,
keratitis (bacterial origin corneal inflammation) and corneal ulcers.
2. Things you need to know before using Ursitan
Do not use Ursitan if:
- You are allergic to tobramycin, any other aminoglycoside antibiotic, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Consult your doctor for more information.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Ursitan:
- Exclusively for ophthalmic use;
- If you experience an allergic reaction (conjunctival edema, eyelid itching, eye itching), stop treatment and see your doctor;
- Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medicines or antibiotics orally or by injection (see section Other medicines and Ursitan);
- Prolonged use of Ursitan, as well as that of other antibiotics, can cause the onset of other infections. If a worsening or sudden recurrence of symptoms occurs, contact your doctor.
Other medicines and Ursitan
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take
any other medicine.
If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 15 minutes after instilling Ursitan before
administering them. Ophthalmic ointments should be used last (see section How to use
Ursitan below.)
Ophthalmic tetracyclines should not be administered concurrently with Ursitan, as one
of the excipients of this medicine, tiloxapole, is chemically incompatible with
tetracyclines.

- 4. Remove the cap from the single-dose container (figure 2).
- 5. Hold the single-dose container between your thumb and other fingers, pointing downwards.
- 6. Tilt your head back.
- 7. Lower the lower eyelid with a finger to create a “pocket” between the eyelid and the eye, into which to apply the drop (figure 3).
- 8. Bring the tip of the single-dose container close to the eye. If you prefer, you can perform the operation in front of a mirror.
