1. What is Magaldrato Mylan and what is it used for
Magaldrato Mylan contains the active ingredient magaldrate which belongs to a group of medicines
called antacids and anti-ulcer drugs used to protect the stomach wall from the action of acids and
prevent damage caused by stress or by certain medicines used to relieve pain and inflammation
(non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
This medicine is indicated in the treatment of:
- lesions of the stomach or intestine (duodenal and gastric ulcer);
- inflammation of the esophagus caused by the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus (reflux esophagitis);
- inflammation of the stomach and intestine (gastritis and gastroduodenitis) of various kinds, characterized by increased acidity (hyperacidity).
2. What you need to know before taking Magaldrato Mylan
Do not take Magaldrato Mylan
- if you are allergic to magaldrate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Magaldrato Mylan.
Take Magaldrato Mylan with caution and only under strict medical supervision if you have kidney problems
(renal insufficiency). If you have severe kidney problems (severe renal insufficiency) avoid taking this
medicine.
Other medicines and Magaldrato Mylan
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other
medicines.
Avoid taking Magaldrato Mylan together with any of the following medicines as magaldrate can
affect their absorption:
- medicines used for the treatment of infections (tetracyclines);
- digoxin, a medicine used for the treatment of heart disorders;
- medicines used for the treatment of anxiety and sleep disorders (benzodiazepines);
- dicoumarol, a medicine used to make the blood more fluid;
- indometacin, a medicine used for the treatment of inflammation;
- medicines used for the treatment of bile duct disorders (keto- and ursodeoxycholic acid);
- medicines used for the treatment of iron deficiency in the body (iron derivatives).
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant, are planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding with breast
milk, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Driving and operating machinery
No effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery are known.
Magaldrato Mylan 800 mg chewable tablets contains sorbitol and sodium
Sorbitol
This medicine contains 146.8 mg of sorbitol per chewable tablet, equivalent to 3.27 mg/kg.
Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you that you are intolerant to some sugars, or if you
have a diagnosis of hereditary fructose intolerance, a rare genetic disorder where patients are unable to
metabolize fructose, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
Sodium
This medicine contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) of sodium per chewable tablet of Magaldrato
Mylan, i.e. essentially ‘sodium-free’.
Magaldrato Mylan 800 mg/10 ml oral suspension contains sorbitol, sodium benzoate, ethanol and sodium
Sorbitol
This medicine contains 840 mg of sorbitol per 10 ml of oral suspension.
Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you that you are intolerant to some sugars, or if you
have a diagnosis of hereditary fructose intolerance, a rare genetic disorder where patients are unable to
metabolize fructose, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
Sodium benzoate
This medicine contains 50 mg of sodium benzoate per 10ml of Magaldrato Mylan.
96% Ethanol
This medicine contains 500 mg of alcohol (ethanol) in 10 ml of Magaldrato Mylan, which is equivalent to 1.11
mg/kg/ml. The amount in 10 ml of this medicine is equivalent to less than 13 ml of beer or 5 ml of wine.
The small amount of alcohol in this medicine will not produce significant effects.
Sodium
This medicine contains 9.8 mg of sodium (the main component of table salt) per 10 ml of
Magaldrato Mylan. This is equivalent to 0.49% of the recommended maximum daily intake with the
diet of an adult.
3. How to take Magaldrato Mylan
Take this medicine following exactly the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist. If you have
any doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Magaldrato Mylan 800 mg chewable tablets
The recommended dose is 1 tablet, 4 times a day, one hour after meals and one hour before bedtime.
The tablets must be chewed or sucked.
Magaldrato Mylan 800 mg/10 ml oral suspension
Bottle: The recommended dose is 10 ml of suspension (2 teaspoons), 4 times a day, one hour after
meals and one hour before bedtime.
Shake the bottle vigorously before use.
Sachets: The recommended dose is 1 sachet, 4 times a day, one hour after meals and one hour before
bedtime.
Before opening the sachet, manipulate it so that its contents become homogeneous.
You may take higher doses than those recommended only if prescribed by your doctor and under his/her strict
control. In any case, as soon as possible, reduce the dose to that sufficient to control the symptoms.
If you take more Magaldrato Mylan than you should
No cases of overdose are known.
Following the intake of an excessive dose of this medicine, problems may occur
in the intestine (See section “Possible side effects”).
In case of accidental intake/ingestion of an excessive dose of Magaldrato Mylan, immediately
inform your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.
If you forget to take Magaldrato Mylan
Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
If you have any doubts about the use of this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur:
Frequency not known(the frequency of which cannot be estimated on the basis of available data)
- alterations of the intestine (changes in bowel movements), such as increased frequency of bowel movements (defecation) and/or soft stools (reduced stool consistency) following the intake of very high doses of Magaldrato Mylan;
- stomach and intestinal disorders (changes in gastrointestinal transit) such as mild and temporary diarrhea or constipation.

doctor or pharmacist. You can also report side effects directly through the national reporting system at

By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of
this medicine.
5. How to store Magaldrato Mylan
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the packaging after “Scad.”. The expiry
date refers to the last day of that month and to the product in intact packaging, correctly
stored.
This medicine does not require any particular storage conditions.
Do not dispose of any medicine in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of
medicines that you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.

What Magaldrato Mylan contains
Magaldrato Mylan 800 mg chewable tablets
- The active ingredient is magaldrate. Each tablet contains 800 mg of magaldrate.
- The other ingredients are: sorbitol, mannitol, corn starch, magnesium stearate, sodium saccharin, caramel flavour.
Magaldrato Mylan800 mg/10 ml oral suspension
- The active ingredient is magaldrate. 10 ml of suspension contains 800 mg of magaldrate. The other ingredients are: 70% sorbitol, hydroxyethylcellulose, citric acid monohydrate, sodium cyclamate, sodium saccharin, simethicone emulsion, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, ethanol (96%), cream flavour, maracuja flavour, purified water.
