THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Short-term treatment of occasional constipation
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of the excipients
- acute abdominal pain or of unknown origin
- nausea or vomiting
- intestinal obstruction or stenosis
- rectal bleeding of unknown origin
- acute haemorrhoidal crisis with pain and bleeding
- severe dehydration.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Laxatives should be used as infrequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use
for longer periods requires a doctor's prescription after adequate assessment of the
individual case.
Treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires the intervention of a doctor for
diagnosis, prescription of drugs and monitoring during therapy.
Abuse of laxatives can cause persistent diarrhoea with consequent loss of water, mineral salts
(especially potassium) and other essential nutrients. In the most severe cases of abuse, it is possible
the onset of dehydration or hypokalaemia, which can determine cardiac or
neuromuscular dysfunction, especially in case of concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides, diuretics
or corticosteroids.
Abuse of laxatives, especially contact laxatives (stimulant laxatives), can cause dependence
(and, therefore,
possible need to progressively increase the dosage), chronic constipation and loss of
normal intestinal functions (intestinal atony).
In episodes of constipation, it is first advisable to correct eating habits
integrating the diet
daily with an adequate intake of fiber and water.
When using laxatives, it is advisable to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water or other
liquids a day, in order to promote softening of the stool.
INTERACTIONS
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have recently taken any other medicines, even
those without a prescription.
No specific interaction studies have been conducted.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
Consult your doctor when the need for a laxative derives from a sudden change in
previous bowel habits (frequency and characteristics of evacuations) that lasts more than
two weeks, or when the use of the laxative fails to produce effects.
In children under twelve years of age, the medicine may only be used after consulting a
doctor.
It is also advisable that elderly or unwell subjects consult a doctor
before using the medicine.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
No adequate and well-controlled studies have been conducted on the use of the medicine during pregnancy or
breastfeeding.
Even if there are no evident contraindications to the use of the medicine during pregnancy and during
breastfeeding, it is recommended to take the medicine only when necessary and under medical supervision.
Effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery
The medicine does not alter the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery. However, it is possible that
during treatment, some undesirable effects may occur, therefore it is good to know the
reaction to the drug before driving vehicles or operating machinery.

First of all, it must be kept in mind that, in most cases, a balanced diet and
rich in water and fiber (bran, vegetables and fruit) can durably solve the problem of
constipation.
Many people think they suffer from constipation if they fail to evacuate every day.
This is a mistaken belief as this situation is perfectly normal for a large number
of individuals.
Instead, consider that constipation occurs when evacuations are reduced compared to
their personal habits and are associated with the emission of hard stools.
If episodes of constipation occur repeatedly, a doctor should be consulted.
DOSAGE, METHOD AND TIME OF ADMINISTRATION
The correct dose is the minimum sufficient to produce an easy evacuation.
It is advisable to initially use the minimum doses provided.
Adults and adolescents (12-18 years): 1 adult suppository as needed, for a maximum of 1 or 2
administrations per day.
Children aged between 2-11 years: 1 children's suppository as needed, for a maximum of 1 or 2
administrations per day
Children aged between 1 month and 2 years: 1 first infancy suppository as needed, for a
maximum of 1 or 2 administrations per day.
Instructions for use
Remove the suppository from its container and then, if necessary, moisten it to facilitate
rectal introduction.
If the suppositories appear softened, immerse the containers, before opening them, in cold water.
In children under twelve years of age, the medicine may only be used after consulting a
doctor.
Laxatives should be used as infrequently as possible and for no more than seven days
(see Precautions for use). A diet rich in fluids promotes the effect of the medicine.
OVERDOSE
No cases of overdose have been reported. In any case, excessive doses (abuse of laxatives - use
frequent or prolonged or with excessive doses) can cause abdominal pain, persistent diarrhoea
with consequent loss of water, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential nutrients. Losses of fluids and electrolytes must be replenished.
Electrolyte imbalances are characterized by the following symptoms: thirst, vomiting, weakness,
edema, bone pain (osteomalacia) and hypoalbuminemia.
In the most severe cases, dehydration or hypokalaemia may occur, which may
determine cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunction, especially in case of concomitant
treatment with cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids. Abuse of laxatives, especially
contact laxatives (stimulant laxatives), can cause dependence (and, therefore, possible need to
progressively increase the dosage), chronic constipation and loss of normal intestinal functions (intestinal atony).
In case of accidental ingestion/intake of an excessive dose of GLYCEROL, immediately warn
the doctor or go to the nearest hospital.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, GLYCEROL can cause side effects, although not everyone
manifest them.
The following are reported side effects of GLYCEROL. There is not enough data
to establish the frequency of the individual effects listed.
Gastrointestinal disorders
Isolated cramp-like pains or abdominal colic and diarrhoea, with loss of fluids and electrolytes, more
frequent in cases of severe constipation, as well as irritation at the rectal level.

the environment.
