1. What is CADTRE and what is it used for
CADTRE contains the active substances Calcium carbonate and Vitamin D3. Calcium is an important
constituent of bones and Vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of Calcium in the intestine and its
deposition in the bones.
It is used:
- In the correction of concomitant Vitamin D3 and Calcium deficiency states in elderly subjects
- As a supplement of Vitamin D3 and Calcium during specific therapies for the treatment of osteoporosis in subjects with ascertained Calcium and Vitamin D3 deficiency or at high risk.
2. What you need to know before using CADTRE
Do not use CADTRE if:
- if you are allergic to Calcium, Vitamin D3 or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- if you suffer from diseases and/or are subject to conditions that can lead to a high concentration of calcium in the urine (hypercalciuria) or in the blood (hypercalcemia);
- if you are in a situation of prolonged immobilisation, especially if accompanied by high levels of calcium in the urine and/or blood (hypercalciuria and/or hypercalcemia
- if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (see section “Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility”)
- if you suffer from a pathological condition that leads to an accumulation of the amino acid phenylalanine (phenylketonuria)
- if you suffer from kidney stones (calcium oxalate lithiasis)
- and your kidneys are no longer able to perform their function correctly (renal insufficiency)
- .
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking CADTRE:
- if your kidney function is impaired or if you have a tendency to form stones. Your treatment should be carefully monitored if your kidneys are not working properly to ensure sufficient calcium intake in your blood;
- if you suffer from an inflammatory disease of unidentified origin characterised by the formation of granulomas in various locations (sarcoidosis);
- if you are an immobilised patient suffering from osteoporosis;
- If you are taking calcium and alkalis from other sources (food, fortified foods or other medicinal products) If you are undergoing long-term treatment, your doctor may, from time to time, want to check the level of calcium in your blood and take a urine sample to monitor kidney function by measuring the amount of creatinine in the blood (serum creatinine). Based on the results, your doctor may reduce the dosage or decide to stop treatment. Children and adolescentsCADTRE is not intended for use in children. Other medicines and CADTREInform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken or might take any other medicine. Consult your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines for the heart, such as digoxin or other cardiac glycosides;
- medicines used to treat bone disorders such as bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride;
- medicines used to promote and increase urine production (thiazide diuretics);
- medicines used to treat epilepsy such as phenytoin or barbiturates;
- glucocorticosteroids;
- tetracycline antibiotics;
- other medicines containing vitamin D or calcium
- other medicines containing basic (alkaline) substances such as carbonate, as the concomitant intake with CADTRE may cause episodes of milk-alkali syndrome. Calcium salts may decrease the absorption of iron, zinc and strontium ranelate. Consequently, iron, zinc or strontium ranelate preparations must be taken at least two hours before or after CADTRE. CADTRE with food, drinks and alcoholThis medicine may interact with certain foods containing oxalic acid (e.g. spinach and rhubarb), phosphates (e.g. bran) or phytic acid (e.g. whole grains), as these may reduce the absorption of calcium contained in CADTRE Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertilityIf you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine. Due to the high content of Vitamin D, this dosage is not indicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In pregnant women, overdose of calcium and vitamin D should be avoided as persistent hypercalcemia is associated with adverse effects on fetal development.
CADTRE can be used during breastfeeding, but your doctor must be informed by
the time that calcium and vitamin D pass into breast milk. This must be taken into
consideration when administering vitamin D supplements to the baby.
Driving and operating machinery
CADTRE is not expected to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
CADTRE contains sodium and aspartameThis medicine contains less than 1 mmol of sodium (23
mg) per sachet, i.e. it is essentially “sodium-free”.
This medicine contains 40 mg of aspartame per sachet. Aspartame is a source of phenyl-
alanine. It may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria, a rare genetic disease that cau-
ses the accumulation of phenylalanine because the body cannot dispose of it correctly.
