1. What is ARQUETA and what is it used for
ARQUETA contains the active ingredient :Netilmicin, an antibiotic.
ARQUETA is used to treat external eye infections caused by microorganisms (germs)
sensitive to Netilmicin.
2. What you need to know before you take ARQUETA
Do not take ARQUETA
If you are allergic to netilmicin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
(listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking ARQUETA.
Prolonged use of topical antibiotics can lead to the growth of resistant microorganisms.
If you notice the appearance of eye irritation or signs of allergy, stop treatment
and consult your doctor.
If you do not notice an improvement after a reasonable period of time, stop treatment and see
your doctor who will advise you on appropriate therapy.
Children and adolescents
ARQUETA may be administered to infants and young children only in cases of actual
need and under the direct supervision of a doctor.
Other medicines and ARQUETA
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any
other medicines.
No significant drug interactions have been reported with the use of ARQUETA 0.3%
eye drops, solution.
Concomitant use of ARQUETA and some aminoglycoside antibiotics may cause or increase the
risk of kidney (nephrotoxic) and ear (ototoxic) effects.
Therefore, inform your doctor if you are taking:
- chemotherapeutic agents (medicines used to treat some types of tumors) such as cisplatin,
- antibiotics (medicines used to treat infections caused by bacteria) such as polymyxin B, colistin, viomycin, streptomycin, vancomycin, other aminoglycosides and some cephalosporins (cephaloridine),
- diuretics (medicines used to increase urine production) such as ethacrinic acid and furosemide.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, suspect you may be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, or if you are
breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy
During pregnancy, the medicine should only be administered in cases of actual need and under the direct
supervision of a doctor.
Breastfeeding
ARQUETA may pass into breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended during
breastfeeding.
Driving and using machines
ARQUETA does not interfere with the ability to drive and use machines.
ARQUETA 3 mg/ml eye drops in a 5 ml bottle contains benzalkonium chloride
May cause eye irritation. Avoid contact with soft contact lenses. Remove the lenses
before application and wait at least 15 minutes before re-applying them. The discoloring action on
soft contact lenses is known.
3. How to take ARQUETA
Take this medicine following exactly the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
If you have doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is one or two drops of ARQUETA in the affected eye(s) (conjunctival sac) three times a day or as prescribed by your doctor.
Avoid contact between the tip of the single-dose container or the dropper tip of the multi-dose bottle and the eye or surrounding areas.
Instructions for use
ARQUETA 3 mg/ml eye drops, solution (5 ml bottle)
Do not use the bottle if the tamper-evident seal on the cap is not intact before first use:
- 1. Wash your hands. Tilt your head back and look up.
- 2. Gently lower the lower eyelid to form a small pocket.
- 3. Turn the bottle upside down and apply gentle pressure to dispense one drop of eye drops into each eye to be treated.
- 4. Release the lower eyelid and close your eye for 30 seconds.
- 5. If the drop does not enter the eye, repeat the operation.
- 6. To avoid infection and injury to the eye, the tip of the bottle must not touch the eye or come into contact with other surfaces.
- 7. After using the bottle, close it tightly by screwing the cap back on.
ARQUETA 3 mg/ml eye drops, solution (Single-dose containers)
- 1. First wash your hands and sit or stand in a comfortable position, then open the aluminum pouch containing a strip of 5 single-dose containers.
- 2. Remove a single-dose container from the strip by applying gentle pressure from the side opposite the vial opening (fig. 1).
- 3. Open the single-dose container by rotating the cap completely, making a 360° turn (fig. 2).
- 4. Tilt your head back and gently lower the lower eyelid with a finger to form a pocket between your eyelid and your eye.
- 5. Position the tip of the single-dose container close to the eye, without touching it; apply gentle pressure to the single-dose container so that a single drop goes into the affected eye(s) as indicated by your doctor or the doctor caring for your child (fig. 3).
- 6. After using the product, close your eye and press with a finger on the corner of the eye (the point where the eye meets the nose) and hold for one minute (fig. 4).
- 7. After inserting the drop into the eye, discard the used single-dose container even if some solution remains inside to avoid contamination of the preservative-free solution.
- 8. Store the remaining containers in the original packaging and in the aluminum pouch; if there are any containers left after 7 days from opening the pouch, they must be discarded for safety and a new pouch must be opened. It is important to continue using the eye drops as prescribed by your doctor or the doctor caring for your child.

If you take more ARQUETA than you should
The effects of administering large amounts of ARQUETA are not known.
If you forget to use ARQUETA
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking ARQUETA
If you have any doubts about using this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist .
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur:
- mild and temporary eye irritation,
- itching,
- fluid accumulation in the eye tissues (edema),
- skin rashes (urticarial);

5. How to store ARQUETA
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the packaging on the box
after the abbreviation “EXP”. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not dispose of any medicine in the wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how
to dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.

After first opening, the bottle must be stored at a temperature below 30°C and
used within 28 days; after this period, any remaining medicine must be discarded.
Record the date of first opening in the designated space on the box.

Store in the original packaging to protect the medicine from light.
After first opening the aluminum pouch: store at a temperature below 30°C and
use within 28 days; any remaining containers must be discarded.
The single-dose container must be used immediately after opening; any remaining medicine
must be discarded.

What ARQUETA contains
ARQUETA 3 mg/ml eye drops, solution (5 ml bottle)
1 ml of solution contains Netilmicin sulfate 4.55 mg equivalent to Netilmicin 3 mg
The other components are: sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride, sodium hydroxide, water for
injections.

Description of the appearance of ARQUETA and contents of the pack
ARQUETA is presented in the form of eye drops, solution for ophthalmic (ocular) use.
The contents of the pack are a 5 ml bottle or 15 single-dose containers of 0.3ml or 20
single-dose containers of 0.3ml.
