• This medicine has been prescribed for you personally. Never give it to others. In fact, this medicine may be dangerous for other individuals, even if their symptoms are the same as yours.

1. What is Viapres and what is it used for

Viapres is used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It belongs to a class of
medicines called “calcium channel blockers”. Viapres has the property of widening (dilating) blood
vessels, facilitating blood flow and lowering blood pressure.

2. Before taking Viapres

Do not take Viapres:

• if you are allergic(hypersensitive) to the active ingredient or any of the excipients of Viapres;
• if you suffer from a heart condition called aortic stenosis. This condition is a narrowing of the valve that allows blood to be pumped out of the heart;
• if you think that any of these conditions apply to you, do not take Viapres before talking to your doctor.

Take special care with Viapres
Before treatment with Viapres your doctor must know:

• if you have heart problems;
• if you have liver diseases;
• Viapres contains lactose: if your doctor has diagnosed you with intolerance to some sugars, contact them before taking this medicine.

Taking Viapres with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other
medicines,including those available without a prescription.
Some medicines can alter the activity of Viapres, or increase it causing side effects. Viapres
can also alter the activity of other medicines. Including:

• other medicines used for the treatment of high blood pressuresuch as furosemide, propranolol or captopril;
• cimetidine (for the treatment of stomach ulcers);
• cyclosporine (used for the prevention of rejection in organ transplantation or for some autoimmune diseases);
• the concomitant use of lacidipine and corticosteroids or tetracosactide may decrease the antihypertensive effect.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacistif you are taking any of these medicines.

Taking Viapres with food and drink
Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking Viapres.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
There is no informationon the safety of using Viapres during pregnancy. If you are pregnantor think you
may be, or if you are planning a pregnancydo not take Viapres without first checking with your
doctor. Your doctorwill consider the risks and benefits associated with taking Viapres for you and
for your baby.
The active ingredient and excipients of Viapres may pass into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding,
check with your doctorbefore starting therapy with Viapres.

Driving and using machines
Viapres can cause dizziness. Patients should be alerted not to drive or operate machinery if
experiencing dizziness or associated symptoms.
Important information about some excipients of Viapres
Viapres contains lactose. If your doctor has diagnosed you with intolerance to some sugars, contact them before
taking this medicine.

3. How to take Viapres

How much to take
Take Viapres always following exactly the instructions of your doctor. If you have doubts, consult your
doctor or pharmacist. Verify with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The usual starting doseof Viapres is 2 mg once a day, in the morning.
Your doctor may decide to increase the dose to 4 or 6 mg, once a day in the morning after about 3-4
weeks of therapy.

How to take it
Swallow the tablet with a little water.
It is preferable to take the medicine every day at the same time.
You can take Viapres with or without food.

If you forget to take Viapres
If you forget to take a dose, take the next one at the same time. Do not take a double dose to
compensate for the forgotten tablet.
If you take more Viapres than you should
If you take too many Viapres tablets, it is very likely that your blood pressure will drop and
your heart rate will change, which may increase or decrease.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
If you stop taking Viapres
Take Viapres for the time recommended by your doctor. Do not stop taking Viapres without the
advice of your doctor. If you have any doubts about the use of Viapres, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Viapres can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common side effects
May affect up to 1 in 10 people:

• irregular heartbeats (palpitations);
• faster heartbeat (tachycardia);
• fluid retention;
• dizziness;
• frequent urination;
• headache;
• skin rash (including redness and itching);
• hot flushes;
• gastric disturbances;
• nausea;
• fatigue.

Common side effects that can be found with blood tests:

• reversible increase in the level of an enzyme called alkaline phosphatase.

Uncommon side effects
These may affect up to 1 in 100 people:

• worsening of chest pain (worsening of pre-existing angina pectoris);
• pallor;
• low blood pressure;
• bleeding, sore gums;
• syncope;
• hypotension.

Rare side effects
These may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people:

• severe allergic reactions with swelling of the face, tongue or throat that can cause difficulty swallowing or breathing;
• itchy, red rash on the skin.

Very rare side effects
These may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people:

• agitation or tremor of the arms and legs;
• depression.

If you get any of these side effects
If any of these side effects get worse, or if you notice any other side effects

5. How to store Viapres

Keep Viapres out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use Viapres after the expiry date which is stated on the packaging.
Store Viapres at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.
Store in the original container to protect from light.
Do not remove the tablet from the blister until you need to take it.
In the event of taking half a 4 mg tablet, the remaining half must be replaced in the blister and
reinserted into the carton to protect it from light and be taken within 48 hours.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to
dispose of medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.

6. Further information

What Viapres contains
The active ingredient is Lacidipine. Viapres tablets are available in different dosages.
Each tablet contains:
4 mg of lacidipine
6 mg of lacidipine
The excipients are:
Lactose, povidone, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171), polyethylene glycol (PEG) 400,
polysorbate 80
